Resume Tips - One

It is best not to include references on your resume. Maintain a list of professional references on a separate page to be offered selectively at the end of a positive interview. Treat your references with respect! Keep them posted when you give out their names.

Resume Tip - Two

Always include your name on all pages of your resume -- relatively large and bold on page one with subsequent pages normal type and bold. Not only will this reinforce your name in the interview selection process, it protects your c.v. should the pages become separated.

Resume Tip - Three

Take a little extra time to test the many attributes available with most word processing packages. Selective use of font, type size, italics, bold, bullets, etc. will create an attractive and professional resume. This document will be viewed as a direct example of your written presentation skills.

Resume Tip - Four

Much success follows those possessing resumes that boast achievements and accomplishments. True credibility, though, comes from quantitative results. Be sure to include numbers reflecting dollar/profit increases and cost reductions.

Resume Tip - Five

Ensure that each degree, diploma, certificate, etc. successfully finished contains words reflecting its completion. Due to misrepresentation, it is no longer sufficient to simply list the programs.

Resume Tip - Six

Do not take up valuable space on your resume by listing complete addresses of your current and past employment. Unless out of the country, the location is generally irrelevant and if important simply may be represented by city name only. (ABC Company Ltd., Toronto).

Resume Tip - Seven

While PC skills are essential these days, it pays dividends to possess easily amended resumes. Make alterations that best describe achievements and responsibilities (don't exaggerate) that meet those requirements in an employment positing.

Resume Tip - Eight

Ask two or three people to check your resume for spelling and grammatical errors (even if you have "spell check"). A slip here creates impressions of weak written presentation skills and a lack of thoroughness.

Resume Tip - Nine

Resumes should always be mailed in full-sized envelopes. If faxed, follow-up with a hard copy by mail.

Resume Tip - Ten

Maximize the space when setting up your resume. Avoid excessive indentation and multi-tabing. If you look at your resume and see chunks of white, chances are you need to restructure.
