Networking
Tip - One

Use
as many personal contacts as possible during your search.
A good group that is often overlooked but filled with great
leads are former customers and suppliers. Let them know you're
available and pleasantly touch base regularly for leads.
Networking
Tip - Two

If
you are turned down for a position, place a follow-up call
to the prime interviewer. Thank them and emphasize how impressed
you were with their organization. Request they forward your
resume to other managers within the company who may have personnel
needs.
Networking
Tip - Three

Not
everyone can afford to join every association in their industry.
However, it would be wise to contact different individuals
who belong to these groups and request they clip out any job
postings they see within the association news letters.
Networking
Tip - Four

When
job searches extend past one month, there can arise a shortage
of targeted employers. To compliment the extensive directories
in every major library, investigate the trade magazine section.
Larger advertisers may represent success and growth and thus
personnel additions.
Networking
Tip - Five

Networking
should not be reserved for friends and relatives. An unemployed
individual would find a wealth of knowledge from industry
personnel employed in their field. Hiring within their company,
recent contact from recruiters and personal leads are generally
given freely.
Networking
Tip - Six

When
networking, ask your contacts for the names of recruiters
THEY were impressed with. Having a resume on file with several
REPUTABLE agencies is a viable networking strategy.
Networking
Tip - Seven

Being
unemployed is not justification for poor appearance. Personal
networking among friends, neighbours and relatives remains
one of the top methods of finding a job. Looking presentable
keeps your confidence high and gives others the confidence
to recommend you to employers they know.
Networking
Tip - Eight

No
one enjoys a second, third, or lower place finish at the conclusion
of an interview process. However, make use of this negative
by re-emphasizing to the employer your interest in working
for his/her organization AND request the name of the firm
from which the successful candidate came. In most cases this
is a top lead and a chance to get the jump on the competition.
Networking
Tip - Nine

Targeted
companies should be called every 3 or 4 weeks. Never assume
that a resume on file means they will call you when a position
becomes available. Keep your name and voice front and center
to maximize your interview chances.
Networking
Tip - Ten

One
of the most profitable employment networking tools is the
trade show. Most of the technical and sales individuals staffing
the booths are very knowledgable about both company and industry
hiring.
